What Total Discontinuation means for you

The manufacturer has finished with the part. You may still find one through surplus or refurbished sellers, or in another site's stores, but that is not a supply chain. When a unit fails, your options are to find one and restore the program onto it, or to migrate the machine.

Both routes start in the same place: having the program. Without a backup, a found spare is just hardware.

Before replacing a PLC processor

We would secure a current, tested PLC program backup, record the programming software and version, and map the I/O, networks and intelligent modules connected to the controller.

CPU migrations can alter addressing, communications, memory behaviour or firmware requirements, so a newer processor in the same general family is not automatically a drop-in replacement. Proving that the program can actually be restored while the existing controller still runs is one of the most valuable checks a maintenance team can make.

Common questions about the Q01CPU

Is the Mitsubishi Electric Q01CPU discontinued?

Yes. The Q01CPU is discontinued (since September 2018) and no longer supplied by Mitsubishi Electric. Its successor is the Q01UCPU.

What replaced the Q01CPU?

Mitsubishi Electric lists the Q01UCPU as the successor. Check compatibility with your machine before planning the change.

Can I still buy a Q01CPU?

Not from Mitsubishi Electric. Surplus and refurbished sellers may have stock; check provenance and test before fitting. The Q01UCPU is the supported route.

How do I back up a Q01CPU?

It is programmed with GX Developer. The exact software version and cable depend on the unit's firmware. ECS records both for every unit it captures, alongside a verified backup.

With a backup, a failed unit is hours. Without one, it is days.

A Capture audit finds every Q01CPU on your site, takes a backup of each one it can reach, and records the software version and cable needed to restore it. When a discontinued unit fails and a replacement turns up, the program is ready to load.

  • Every device located, photographed and lifecycle-checked
  • Backups taken on the day, with software version and cable recorded
  • Findings report, plus a populated Command Centre
  • No production downtime
